CELEBRATING 20 YEARS!

2024 marks the 20th year of the agritourism program in Kansas and we think that is cause for a celebration! For two whole decades, this program has been connecting folks to the amazing world of Kansas agriculture. From fun pumpkin patches to vineyards and everything in-between, the program has shown off the rich diversity of the state's agricultural landscape. As families gather for festivities filled with hayrides, farm-fresh feasts, and lively music, there's a sense of pride in the agricultural heritage that sustains Kansas. This anniversary not only marks a legacy of agritourism but also marks a promising future, where the bonds between rural communities and eager adventurers continue to flourish. Here's to twenty years of cultivating memories and nurturing connections in the sunflower state! Stay tuned for exciting events and initiatives that will showcase the best of what agritourism has to offer!

BEYOND THE FIELDS

I am thrilled to announce our partnership with KDA’s From the Land of Kansas Program to embark on a journey exploring the vibrant world of specialty crops and agritourism right here in Kansas! Through funding provided by a USDA Specialty Crop Block Grant, we were able to create a video series highlighting 4 locations encouraging people to shop and visit local farms throughout the state. Through engaging videos, we'll delve deep into the heart of our state's agricultural landscape, uncovering the stories behind the incredible diversity of specialty crops and the unique experiences offered by agritourism destinations across Kansas. We have 2 of the 4 videos complete and they can be viewed on our website or KS Agritourism Facebook page!

2024 NATIONAL AGRITOURSIM SURVEY

The 2024 National Agritourism Survey is now collecting responses, and you are invited to participate! All agricultural operations that welcome visitors – whether for on-farm education, direct sales, entertainment, recreation, special events, and more – are invited to complete the survey.  So, if you offer education or rent event space on your farm, have a farmstand, a petting zoo, offer pick-your-own, farm stays, or other on-farm experiences, your insights are crucial.

By participating in this survey, you'll help us pinpoint the types of support farmers like you require – whether it's business assistance, developing networks, applying for grants, or navigating zoning and liability issues. Our goal is to help build the resources you need, improve your access to critical information and opportunities, and shape policy decisions that impact your industry.

This survey is part of a collaborative project led by Penn State with the University of Vermont, Oklahoma State University, the University of Maine, Northeast Regional Center for Rural Development, and other partners across the country.

We recognize that your time is valuable, which is why the survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Your insights are invaluable to us, and we sincerely appreciate your willingness to participate.

If you have questions about the survey, please contact Claudia Schmidt from Penn State Extension at cschmidt@psu.edu.
