Welcome to our new staff!
My name is Lisa Hecker, and I’m the new Byways and Signage Manager. I most recently worked as a Program Consultant in the Traffic Safety Unit at the Kansas Department of Transportation. I graduated from Washburn University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies, with an emphasis in journalism. On a personal note, my favorite pet is the ever-loyal dog. My favorite food is anything chocolate. At my house, chocolate is its own food group, and I’ve been known to serve chocolate cake for breakfast. (After all, milk and eggs are breakfast foods!)
My name is Kelsey Tully and I will be serving as the new Agritourism Manager! I was born and raised in Wichita in the wonderful state of Kansas and attended Fort Hays State University, where I received a Bachelor’s in Animal Science. I then went on to receive my Master’s in Agricultural Education and Communication from Kansas State University. A few fun facts about myself are; my favorite animal is a cow and two of my Kansas bucket list travels this year include visits to Morford Lavender Farms and Manna Meadows Alpacas!

The National Park Service’s National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom announced on September 30, 2021, that it is recognizing Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area (NHA) as a program in the Network to Freedom. Freedom’s Frontier NHA joins 18 new listings from the 42nd round of Network to Freedom applications and becomes the first NHA to receive such a designation. This new listing, one of over 695 others already in the Network, which include partner sites in Freedom’s Frontier NHA, provides insight into the experiences of freedom seekers who bravely escaped slavery and those who assisted them.
